Alabama Increases Homestead Exemption

A newly-enacted Alabama law has increased the homestead exemption to $56,400 for residents 62 years or older and for individuals with certain disabilities.  The homestead exemption for other residents remains the same.  In bankruptcy cases, the exemption amount in effect on the petition date controls.  The law becomes effective on June 1, 2026.
