Augie represents financial services providers and related entities in connection with litigation and regulatory matters. He defends clients facing complex civil actions brought by private plaintiffs, including actions under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), the False Claims Act (FCA), and state unfair trade practice laws. Additionally, he assists clients in connection with government investigations, examinations, and enforcement actions. He also has experience pursuing appeals.
Augie’s regulatory work involves counseling depository and non-depository institutions on key federal and state laws governing the financial services industry. He has experience with a variety of laws, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act (DIDMCA), Federal Credit Union Act (FCUA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and Truth-in-Lending Act (TILA). Augie’s regulatory work benefits from his litigation experience, which helps him view issues from the perspective of a reviewing court or a potential litigant.
Before joining the firm, Augie served as a law clerk to Judge Bruce M. Selya of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and Judge John J. McConnell, Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.
