VA Announces Increase in Assistance Under SAH Grant Program

The VA has announced that aggregate amounts of assistance under the Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant program will increase by 0.85 percent for the 2022 fiscal year.  The increase in the aggregate amounts are effective as of October 21, 2021.

The aggregate amount of assistance available for SAH grants made pursuant to 38 U.S.C. 2101(a), which is focused on the acquisition of housing with special features, is $101,754 for the 2022 fiscal year.  The maximum Temporary Residence Adaption (TRA) made to an individual who satisfies the eligibility criteria under 38 U.S.C. 2101(a) and 2102A is $40,983 for the 2022 fiscal year.

The total amount of assistance available for SAH grants made pursuant to 38 U.S.C. 2101(b), which outlines the requirements for adaptions to a veteran’s residence, is $20,387 for the 2022 fiscal year.  The maximum TRA grant given to an individual who fulfills the criteria under 38 U.S.C. 2101(b) and 2102A is $7,318 for the 2022 fiscal year.  Finally, the amount of assistance available for grants made pursuant to 38 U.S.C 2102B will be $93,356 during the 2022 fiscal year, though the Secretary of Veteran Affairs can waive this limitation if the Secretary determines the waiver is necessary for the rehabilitation program of the veteran.
