FDIC Updates Risk Management Manual of Examination Policies

On July 26, 2017, the FDIC issued Financial Institution Letter FIL-31-2017, which announces updates to certain sections of its Risk Management Manual of Examination Policies.

The updates include changes to the Report of Examination Instructions (Section 16.1 of the Manual) to incorporate guidance from the FDIC Board of Directors to examiners regarding supervisory recommendations.  For example, the updated Manual instructs examiners that supervisory recommendations must address meaningful concerns, communicate concerns clearly and in writing, and discuss corrective action.  Instructions were also added for new Report of Examination schedules or updated for existing schedules (such as the Examiner’s Comments and Conclusions page).
